DETROIT -- Will Power gave Roger Penske and Chevrolet what they desperately wanted by winning the first of two races at the Detroit Grand Prix. Adam Humphries Jersey . "On his home track and in Chevys backyard, its a perfect day," Power said Saturday. "If we can do it again tomorrow, itll be even better." Power finished 0.3308 seconds ahead of Graham Rahal on the bumpy, 13-turn, 2.36-mile street circuit on Belle Isle. He started a season-worst 16th and took the lead for good with just more than 10 laps to go when he passed Ryan Briscoe. "Theres no way we thought we would come from 16th to win," he said. "But this is IndyCar and anything can happen." The Australian held off Rahal to join Indianapolis 500 champion Ryan Hunter-Reay as the series drivers with two victories through six races. Power pulled within three points of Hunter-Reay, IndyCars points leader. James Hinchcliffe of Oakville, Ont., finished in sixth place. Power, who won IndyCars season-opening race, has 23 career victories to break a tie with Emerson Fittipaldi and Tony Bettenhausen and to match Tommy Milton for 18th on the all-time list. His latest victory was especially sweet for Penske and Chevy. Penske had not won an open-wheel race in the area he calls home since Helio Castroneves finished first in 2001. "Its sure a great piece of satisfaction for me to see this happen," Penske acknowledged. And for Chevy, which sponsors the race, it was a good day after being relegated to watching Honda dominate the previous three races over the last two years in the shadow of its world headquarters. "We swept the podium in 2012," Art St. Cyr, president of Honda Performance Development, said a few hours before Saturdays race. "We won both races last year, swept the podium in one race and had two of the three spots in the other race "There are a lot of Chevy folks here, so you do walk around with your chest puffed out a little bit more." After the 70-lap race, Honda had to settle for Rahals second-place finish as its only driver on the podium. Rahal, whose only career victory was in 2008, had finished no better than 13th this year. "Its a great day for us with the year weve had and the luck weve had," Rahal said. Tony Kanaan was a season-best third followed by Justin Wilson and Castroneves, who was the pole-sitter and led a race-high 30 laps Saturday. "I wish I could relax," Kanaan said "My mind is already going on what I have to do tomorrow." Hunter-Reay, meanwhile, failed to follow up the biggest win of his career with a 16th-place finish. He was on the last lap, but did not make it to the finish line because he spun into a tire wall to end the race. He started 21st in the 22-car field because he brushed a wall on his second lap during Saturday mornings qualifying session. "We had a rough day overall," Hunter-Reay said. Simon Pagenaud and Mike Conway each won last year on Belle Isle and both lost their shot to win early Saturday. Pagenaud damaged his front left suspension when he ran into the back of Power, leading to a yellow. "I didnt even know where Pagenaud was," Power insisted. Conway did not have any one around him when he appeared to understeer into a wall on Lap 15, putting the race under caution. Both will get another shot to repeat at the Detroit Grand Prix on Sunday as part of IndyCars first of three doubleheaders this season. While Penske was thrilled with the victory after Castroneves was barely beaten by Hunter-Reays Honda-powered car last Sunday at the Indy 500, he knew there were fewer than 24 hours to celebrate before the next race on Sunday. "We all start from ground zero," he said. Robert McClain Jersey .The long-haired pivot, who joined the Alouettes midway through the CFL season and put up a 9-3 record as a starter, will be listed as the top quarterback in training camp next spring. With a full training camp under his belt, the Alouettes will see if he has what it takes to get them back to the Grey Cup game after a four-year absence. Noah Spence Jersey . On Saturday, the paths of Drew Tate and Kevin Glenn cross again as opposing quarterbacks. http://www.shoptheofficialbuccaneers.com...rs-Jersey/ .ca NHL Power Rankings, ahead of the Chicago Blackhawks, St. Louis Blues and Anaheim Ducks. Moving up, from 10 to seven this week, the Pittsburgh Penguins have won seven straight despite a depleted lineup.VANCOUVER -- The B.C. Lions are clear on their mission as they prepare to host the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday. Stop Jon Cornish. Watch the Stampeders vs. Lions live on TSN tonight at 9pm et/6pm pt. The Lions want to make sure the Stamps running back does not repeat his performance of a week earlier, when he scored four touchdowns in a win over the previously unbeaten Saskatchewan Roughriders, while romping for 175 yards. "Its going to take all of us," said Lions defensive lineman Keron Williams. "You cant have one person out there tackling him, because hes too good. Their offensive line is too good." The Lions (4-2) have a chance to move into a tie for first place in the West Division with the Stamps and Riders, who are both 5-1. "Their offensive line and Cornish, theyre real talented, obviously, and theyve been having a lot of success," said Lions linebacker Adam Bighill. "They play physical, so its a big chance to stop them." The Lions are looking to avenge an embarrassing 44-32 season-opening loss to the Stamps in Calgary on June 28, when the game was decided early. Cornish ran for 172 yards and two touchdowns in that game as the Stamps extended their mastery over B.C. dating to the 2012 Western Final. While trying to stop Cornish, the Lions will also attempt to make a better showing of their own running game. Lions tailback Andrew Harris, who has built a rivalry with the New Westminster, B.C., native in recent years, ran for only 20 yards in the season-opener and expects himself and the team to be better. "Its one of these games where its a statement for us," said Harris. "We lost some confidence against them playing in the Western Final. We want to get that morale back and get back to winning ways as a team." Harris comments reflected the Lions ongoing effort to paint themselves as underdogs. The Winnipeg native described his rivalry with Cornish as "friendly" and claimed he is just happy to be mentioned in the same conversation with him. Meanwhile, Lions coach Mike Benevides called the Stampeders "the better team." "We have to prove that we can hang with these guys," Benevides said. But Cornish, who has enjoyed a number of strong games against the Lions, is not buying B.C.s underdog brand, expecting a strong effort from the hosts in a stadium in which they have dominated since it received a new roof in 2011. While he always strives to improve from one game to the next, hee is not banking on a repeat of his four-touchdown effort, either. Nick Folk Jersey. "You have to forget whatever you did in the past game, because it doesnt matter," said Cornish. "Sure, it might put us in a better record or whatever. But unless we come out and do what we do every week ... its forgotten. So you have to have a big game every week." Cornish, who is second in rushing in the CFL with 676 yards, a 7.3-yard average and seven touchdowns, also wants to have a big game in comparison to Harris, who sits third with 459 yards, a 5.5-yard average and four TDs. While Cornish contended the media has made more of the rivalry than he does, he welcomes the hype. "The media definitely helps in bringing out good games, because any time you have incessant coverage of a specific pairing of two players, I dont know, it makes you have to rise to the occasion," said Cornish. "I enjoy rising to the occasion, so its not a bad thing." Lions quarterback Travis Lulay thinks the hoopla surrounding the Canadian running backs is great for the league, and he does not mind the ongoing discussion about them, either. "(People) will talk about it forever, because theyre both Canadian guys," said Lulay. "But as far as respect goes, it has nothing to do with passports or anything. Its not like theyre good Canadians. Theyre good football players." Cornish never gets tired of playing in B.C. Place Stadium, either. Its a place where he feels extremely comfortable. "This is the only locker-room Ive ever used here in B.C. Place, and I played here in high school as well," said Cornish. "It never gets old. I like to think of this as my second city, and I really enjoy playing here." But the Lions want to make sure he does not enjoy himself too much Saturday. Notes: Slotback Nick Moore will return to the B.C. lineup after missing the previous game against Winnipeg with an ankle injury. ... The Lions released third-year kicker Hugh ONeill on Friday. As a result, Paul McCallum will handle all of B.C.s kicking duties. ... Kevin Glenn will start at quarterback for the Stampeders as No. 1 Drew Tate remains out with an arm injury. ... The Lions announced a new partnership with Vancouver law firm McMillan LLP, which includes collaboration on community projects. Former federal and Alberta cabinet minister Stockwell Day is a strategic advisor for McMillan and attended a news conference on the announcement, but did not speak.
